Design & Technology is an important part of our everyday lives. In S1 & S2 Design & Technology you will solve real-life, design based problems. These problems will require you to be creative and think outside the box. You will start by making your own sketchbook which will allow you to record and communicate your designs. You will gain some practical experience by manufacturing your own ‘Finding Nemo’ pencil holder and learn about digital design in the production ‘Wrapster’ – an acrylic laser cut earphone tidy.
In S2, you will build upon the skills that you have developed in S1. You will be introduced to new materials and techniques and take more control over your projects. You will start S2 will a ‘Structural Damage’ metalwork project and complete your BGE experience by applying your technical and creative skills in the design and manufacture of an Alessi clock. Towards the end of S2, you will begin to decide what subjects you would like to specialise in – this can be a difficult decision but hopefully your BGE experience will help you decide between Graphic Communication, Design and Manufacture or both.
