You may have noticed in the media this week that Early Years Scotland, in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and the Daily Record, has been extensively promoting and advertising our exciting first ever Careers Morning.

Early Years Scotland has been funded by SDS to organise and deliver this event to support the national expansion of the ELC workforce by 2020.

We would like to ask you to share this invitation with anyone you feel may be interested in coming along. The link below can be used to book a FREE space. A crèche (also free) is available, and can be booked when registering.

You would of course be most welcome to come along too if you have time and availability on Thursday 1 February. We would ask that you also follow the link to book a space.

I look forward to welcoming everyone on the day!

Best Wishes,

Free Microsoft office download

If anyone is receiving tablets, laptops or other devices from Santa, this is a great way of accessing Microsoft products such as word and powerpoint without the expense of purchasing!

Office 365 ProPlus

All Glow users, can get copies of Microsoft Office 2016 to use on their home devices – PC, Mac, phones and tablets.

This will enable the use of a range of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote etc) on up to 15 home devices without cost (the 15 licences being split as 5 for PCs and/or Macs, 5 for tablets and 5 for phones).

To do this, login to Glow, from the launch pad click the Office 365 Home tile (image below) then the “Install Office apps” button and follow the instructions.

Note that if downloading to an iPad or iPhone the process is different, the apps should be downloaded from the App Store and then log in using the Glow username. There is more information from Microsoft available here.

When logging in, you will be asked to enter your user name and this is your Glow user name plus the domain e.g., once you do this, you will be transferred to the usual Glow login screen, when you enter your details here your registration is complete.

The Glow username will only activate the software for as long as that account is active in Glow.

It is also possible to download the apps from within Microsoft O365 – within O365, click on the Office 365 link in the top left of your screen and from the O365 home page, click on “Install Office 2016”.

Have your say on East Renfrewshire Council’s 2018-2021 budget consultation

Subject: Have your say on East Renfrewshire Council’s 2018-2021 budget consultation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

East Renfrewshire Council is consulting on its budget for 2018-2021.   Your responses to this consultation will help shape councillors’ decision making about how our budget will be spent over the next three years.

The Council’s budget covers a huge range of services, including education, schools, early learning and childcare, social care, roads, cleansing and housing.

While the Council does not yet know its exact budget, with the Scottish Government not due to confirm the annual grant settlement until December, ERC is expecting to have to make savings in the region of £26million between 2018 and 2021.  This is in addition to £37million of savings the Council has already made since 2012.

A range of proposed savings to meet the £26million shortfall has been published for consultation and is available at   Parent Council Chairs have been invited to a series of meetings as part of the Budget Conversation, but we are keen to hear from as many parents as possible on the savings proposals set out in the Budget Booklet, a small number of hard copies of which are available in schools or at this link.

The consultation will be open until 28 November, with the final budget being decided by elected members at a meeting of the full council on 8 February 2018.

Many Thanks,

East Renfrewshire Council
