A number of our S4 pupils will be attending ‘Aspire to Success’ workshops today with Mr. Brian Costello, Director of the Headstrong organisation.<\/p>\n
This is the second of six sessions which Brian will be offering each group \u2013 three pre-prelims and three pre-SQA diet \u2013 with the aim of ensuring that the pupils participating realise their full academic potential, whilst developing coping strategies and elaborated life skills.<\/p>\n
The programme is flexible to meet the needs of the individual pupils and the dynamics of each group, but will explore the themes highlighted below, namely:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Open dialogue with group around fears and pressures of study and examinations<\/p>\n
\u2022 40% Student led, actively teaching strategies to deal with the concerns of the group, 60% pre-planned material<\/p>\n
\u2022 In-depth teaching of specific learning and study skills discussed during assembly session<\/p>\n
\u2022 Provide a platform for pupils to actively discuss blocks to study, aspiration and success<\/p>\n
The\u00a0programme was piloted\u00a0with a group of pupils from last year\u2019s S4 and both the results in the SQA examinations and, indeed, the feedback from participants was extremely positive.<\/p>\n
