{"id":28480,"date":"2022-03-02T02:38:04","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T01:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/?p=28480"},"modified":"2022-03-02T02:38:04","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T01:38:04","slug":"wednesday-reflection-66","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/wednesday-reflection-66\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Midweek Reflection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t suppose any of us or at least many of us are as rich as the Russian Oligarchs we hear so much about these days.\u00a0 I equally suppose that most of us and almost certainly all of us are richer than the homeless people who beg on the streets of our cities.\u00a0 So, should we feel ill at ease when we hear Jesus say, It is hard\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cfor those who have wealth to enter the Kingdom of God\u201d<\/strong><\/em>?\u00a0 Well, yes!\u00a0 Yes, that is, if we\u00a0 keep and use our money solely for our own selves and for our own comfort and self-indulgence.\u00a0 No; if we use what we have with a generous mind and care for those\u00a0 struggling in the world.\u00a0 It is not money that is the root of all evil.\u00a0 Saint Paul wrote to Timothy and told him that <em><strong>\u201cthe love of money is the root of all evils.\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 From time to time I encourage you to get into the habit of visiting the Oratory for a prayer during breaks or during lunch time.\u00a0 Then I encourage you to tell your friends that you are going to do so, for, thereby, you give a good example.<\/p>\n<p>One thing even better is to have the courage to invite others to come with you, if even for a moment.\u00a0 One richness we\u00a0 have is the ability to go to Holy Mass whenever we want\u2026.for some of us, during Lent that means every school day. That, too, is a richness we are meant to share.\u00a0 We are all aware that there are many people who previously attended Mass before lock-down and have not returned.\u00a0 Perhaps they are nervous of returning or have just got out of the way of going to church. Here\u2019s something we can do for our Lenten Penance.\u00a0 We can pray that they will seize the opportunity of opening the doors once more.\u00a0 One thing even better is to have the humility and courage to invite them to join you and assure them that you will accompany them until they feel comfortable about re-joining the praying community.\u00a0 That\u2019s a richness to share and your reward will be great in Heaven.\u00a0 The <em><strong>\u201clove of money\u201d<\/strong><\/em> is, I would say, related to pride.<\/p>\n<p>Human wealth tempts the wealthy person to sin against both God and neighbour:\u00a0 against God, because the wealthy person is tempted to feel no need for God.
