{"id":28225,"date":"2021-11-17T07:00:37","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T06:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/?p=28225"},"modified":"2021-11-16T22:56:09","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T21:56:09","slug":"wednesday-reflection-57","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/wednesday-reflection-57\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Midweek Reflection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>17<sup>th <\/sup>November 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The last time I climbed a tree was probably about 1954.\u00a0 In our garden there were lots of trees including what was called, \u201cthe big tree.\u201d\u00a0 When I say, \u201cour garden\u201d, it would be more accurate to say, \u201cthe back-green of our tenement\u201d, for there were lots of children in our building.\u00a0 Maybe something in the region of fifteen plus.\u00a0 So climbing the big tree was something the boys did, and sometimes even the girls.\u00a0 I think we would have been surprised to see any of our parents climb the trees. They, after all were quite old.\u00a0 They would have been in their forties!\u00a0 Yet St Luke tells us that the rich collector of taxes \u00a0Zacchaeus, left behind his dignity and, like a curious child, climbed the sycamore in order to see Jesus.\u00a0 Was it mere curiosity on his part?\u00a0 Was he intrigued by the person of Jesus or by the words he said?\u00a0 We know not.\u00a0 At any rate, seeing Zacchaeus was not enough for Jesus.\u00a0 He speaks to him.\u00a0 He invites Himself to his house\u2026.for a meal.<\/p>\n<p>Zacchaeus climbed a tree.\u00a0 Jesus did the rest.\u00a0 \u00a0St Margaret of Scotland was someone who saw Jesus without the need to climb a tree.\u00a0 A Hungarian who in 1070 became the Queen of Scotland,\u00a0 she was a wonderful woman who by her works, rooted in her love of the Lord, put into effect the reforms of Pope Gregory VII.\u00a0 She had tragedy in her life.\u00a0 Her husband and son were killed by King William Rufus of England shortly before her death.\u00a0 But she had joy in heaven when another of her sons, King David, followed in his mother\u2019s footsteps and later became honoured as a saint.\u00a0 Her strong moral character resulted in good things for everyone.\u00a0 Because of her, lives were transformed.\u00a0 The life of \u00a0Zacchaeus was transformed when he accepted Jesus into his home. We can invite Him into our homes too. But the desire to climb that tree has to come from us.
