{"id":2635,"date":"2014-08-31T20:11:43","date_gmt":"2014-08-31T19:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/?p=2635"},"modified":"2014-08-31T20:11:07","modified_gmt":"2014-08-31T19:11:07","slug":"saltire-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/saltire-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Saltire Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/files\/2012\/09\/saltirelogo_blue_transparent.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2646\" title=\"saltirelogo_blue_transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/files\/2012\/09\/saltirelogo_blue_transparent-1024x258.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What Are The Saltire Awards?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New national awards designed to formally recognise the commitment and contribution of youth volunteering.<\/p>\n<p>Enables you to record the skills, experience and learning you gain through successful volunteering placements in school or provided by local and national voluntary agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The Awards are split in to four sections:<\/p>\n<p>The Challenge (one-off event)<br \/>\nThe Approach (10, 25 hours)<br \/>\nThe Ascent (50, 100, 200, 500 hours)<br \/>\nThe Summit (200 hours \u2013 nominated)<\/p>\n<p>Achievement is recognised in the form of Saltire Award certificates and Young Scot reward points.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Why Would I Do This?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taking pride and gaining enjoyment from the activities you take part in<br \/>\nDevelop your teamwork, communication and leadership skills<br \/>\nMeaningful contribution to society<br \/>\nPersonal statements \/ references<br \/>\nGaining a nationally recognised award<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What Counts As Volunteering?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giving up your own time to help others (without payment)<br \/>\nIn-school activities<br \/>\nOut-of-school activities<br \/>\nCan add up hours from both<br \/>\nHours can be back-dated for up to 2 years<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What Counts As Volunteering?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Extra- Curricular Activities e.g. Sports \/ Music \/ Spiritual \/ Academic \/ Environmental \/ Enterprise<br \/>\nStudent Tutoring \/ Buddying \/ Community Placements<br \/>\nDuke of Edinburgh (Volunteering Section) Committees e.g. Yearbook, Prom, Graduation<br \/>\nCharity work \/ fundraising \u2013 e.g. Lasallian<br \/>\nEvents \u2013 Information Nights, Parents\u2019 Evenings, Mass, Disco\u2019s, Talent Shows, School Show<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What Do I Need To Do Now?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See Mrs Gorman to discuss the activities you have already completed or plan to get involved in.<\/p>\n<p>You will then receive a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/StNinians\/files\/2012\/10\/Form_B_Volunteer_Timesheet1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">timesheet<\/a> which you will use to record the number of hours you complete.\u00a0 The hours you claim for will need to be\u00a0verified by the teacher or leader in charge of the activity you have volunteered for.<\/p>\n<p>Hand the completed timesheet to Mrs Gorman and you will then receive the appropriate Saltire Award and Young Scot Reward points.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Further Information<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you would like more information please contact Mrs Gorman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saltireawards.org.uk\/\">www.saltireawards.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.volunteerscotland.org.uk\/\">www.volunteerscotland.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Are The Saltire Awards?
