Dickens originally published his novels in instalments. <em>Hard Times <\/em>was published in 20 weekly parts in Dickens\u2019s journal <em>Household<\/em> <em>Words<\/em> from 1 April to 12 August 1854. In 2020 we are offered the opportunity to follow the original publication dates, as the story unfolds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hardtimesreadalong.wordpress.com\/?utm_content=buffer82724&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">https:\/\/hardtimesreadalong.wordpress.com\/?utm_content=buffer82724&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dickens&#8217;s message is as timely and urgent for us in 2020 as it was in 1854.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=o3DkbRNwkwo\">Click here for an introductory video explaining the project.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can read each instalment \u2013 only when the \u2018publication\u2019 date arrives, at Dickens Journals Online \u2013 the first instalment is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.djo.org.uk\/household-words\/volume-ix\/page-141.html\">here<\/a> ready for you to read on 1 April \u2013 and you can find all the instalments listed as thumbnails to click on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.djo.org.uk\/indexes\/authors\/charles-dickens\/hard-times.html\">here<\/a>. I\u2019ll also share a link to each new instalment week by week, and if you\u2019re reading from a paper copy, I will send instructions on which chapters to read too \u2013 the first instalment is chapters 1,2 and 3.<\/p>\n<p>Each Wednesday a new post is set up where you can share your comments on the story. What do you find interesting? What bits do you want to know more about? And what do you think might happen next?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Everyone is welcome. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re a scholar, an avid reader, or if this is your first Dickens novel \u2013 all opinions are valid.
