Strathclyde Fire and Rescue (SFR) personnel will be visiting St Ninian’s on the afternoon of Wednesday 13th<\/sup> June 2012.<\/p>\n

During this visit operational firefighters will be demonstrating the methods that\u00a0are used to extricate injured people who have been involved in Road Traffic Collisions (RTC`s).\u00a0 Strathclyde Fire and Rescue is at the cutting edge of road rescue, in the UK both in terms of equipment and techniques.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As an organisation SFR constantly records and monitors statistics which relate to RTC`s and know only too well the toll of death and injury which takes place every day on our roads. We also know from our records that young people such as you are at highest risk of being involved in an RTC.<\/p>\n

With this in mind we would like you all to come along and see our extrication demonstration. Our highly trained and professional crews will be delighted to show you how we work, and demonstrate the advanced trauma care techniques used by the modern firefighter. This visit will also give you a chance to ask any questions that you may have on this subject.<\/p>\n

Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) contribute to the largest killer and cause of injury that Strathclyde Fire & Rescue attend. This is not a unique position to be in, almost every Fire & Rescue Service within the UK reports a significantly higher toll of death and injury from RTCs than from fire and other emergencies. Indeed RTC\u2019s are a global phenomenon, they amount for over 1.2 million deaths and 50 million injuries each year, 3200 people die every day as the result of a RTC.<\/p>\n

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue\u2019s approach to reducing the numbers killed and injured is by means of effective prevention and intervention strategies. East Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire (EA&ER) Area aims to reflect this through working in partnership with Road Safety, the Police and other partners through the delivery of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue\u2019s RTC prevention initiative, \u2018Cut it Out<\/em>\u2019, which is being delivered to all secondary schools within the Area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Cut it Out<\/em>\u2019 is an interactive road safety programme with the aim of raising awareness amongst new and potential drivers and passengers of the reality of a road traffic collision.<\/p>\n

\u2018Cut it Out<\/em>\u2019 also aims to develop young people\u2019s understanding of speed and other forms of irresponsible driving.\u00a0 Through working in partnership, the programme aims to educate road users and engage vulnerable groups with specific emphasis upon potential and actual road users.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Cut it Out<\/em>\u2019 programme is based around discussion and interaction and can also use various media such as video and audio.\u00a0 The programme is delivered by specially trained Strathclyde Fire & Rescue personnel.<\/p>\n
