Monday 15th April 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord God,<\/p>\n

Six days before his death, your son sat with Lazarus,
\nWhom he had raised from the dead,
\nAnd ate dinner with his friends.
\nOnce again, your gospel tells us, Martha served,
\nAnd Mary knelt at Jesus\u2019 feet
\nTo anoint them with costly perfume.
\nThe disciple who was about to betray him
\nSaid that it was a waste.
\nHe didn\u2019t care about the poor, really \u2013
\nHe just wanted to fill his own pockets
\nAnd make Mary feel ashamed.
\nLord God,
\nOften we cannot discern what is best:
\nWhen to pour out costly perfume for your sake,
\nEven if the world thinks it a waste.
\nWhen to be busy serving,
\nOr when to rest at your Son\u2019s feet and learn.
\nGive us ears to hear you and eyes to see.
\nFor the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

Tuesday 16th April 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord God,<\/p>\n

The message of the cross is difficult to take.
\nHow can death give way to life? How can weakness be strength?
\nYet your word says that Jesus, being God,
\nTook on human flesh
\nAnd suffered the worst kind of death.
\nHow can this be?
\nThis message is indeed difficult to take.
\nBut your foolishness is wiser than our wisdom.
\nYour weakness is greater than our strength.
\nHelp us to know that none of us can boast before you.
\nIt is only in Christ Jesus that we can boast.
\nIn his name, we ask you to help our unbelief.
\nThat we may love you, and walk in the way Jesus taught us.
\nIn his name,<\/p>\n

Amen.<\/p>\n

Wednesday 17th April 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord God,<\/p>\n

We tremble to think
\nThat it was one of Jesus\u2019 own friends who betrayed him.
\nOne who sat by him, who broke bread with him.
\nGive us strength, we pray,
\nTo walk faithfully with Jesus,
\nEven when the road we walk is rocky
\nEven when the message of the cross seems like foolishness
\nAnd even when we feel betrayed.
\nYou, Lord, are always faithful.
\nWe stumble, we become lost,
\nBut you are steady and sure.
\nGive us the grace to endure our troubles,
\nAnd reveal to us the glory of your kingdom,
\nThrough your son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

Thursday 18th April 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord God,<\/p>\n

You sent your Son into the world,
\nAnd before his hour had come,
\nHe washed his disciples\u2019 feet.
\nYou had given all things into his hands.
\nHe had come from you, and was going to you,
\nAnd what did he do?
\nHe knelt down on the floor,
\nAnd washed his friends\u2019 feet.
\nHe was their teacher and their Lord,
\nYet he washed their feet.
\nLord God, help us learn from his example;
\nHelp us to do as he has done for us.
\nThe world will know we are his disciples
\nIf we love one another.
\nStrengthen our hands and our wills for love
\nAnd for service.
\nKeep before our eyes the image of your Son,
\nWho, being God, became a Servant for our sake.
\nAll glory be to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
\nOne God, now and forever.<\/p>\n
