Pupils from schools across Scotland were competing in the second round of the Law Society of Scotland\u2019s \u2018Donald Dewar Memorial Debating tournament\u2019 last night. Michael McGrade and Holly Edgar were representing St Ninian\u2019s at Holy Cross High School in Hamilton and presented a powerful opposition to the motion that performance enhancing drugs should be permitted in professional sports, securing a place in the semi-finals. Both Michael and Holly worked incredibly hard to draw together the most compelling evidence in their case, delivering well-structured and highly convincing speeches on the night and tackling the proposition\u2019s counter-arguments with ease . The tournament has so far been an excellent opportunity for the pupils to develop their skills in critical thinking, learn how to rebut arguments in a fast-paced environment and grow in confidence as debaters.
