U14 Scottish Shield Champions 2016

Congratulations to the Under 14 Football Team with their outstanding achievement of winning the Scottish Shield on Friday evening, beating Braidhurst High Performance School 5 v 1 at Renfrew Juniors.

Against a very good team, the first half was very competitive with Owen Adam making several very important saves for St Ninian’s as we went in the dressing room at half time losing one nil after conceding a goal from distance after four minutes.

The second half performance was brilliant as St Ninian’s played fantastic football and Odhran Markey equalised after cutting in from the right hand side with a very good left footed strike.

Within five minutes of the second half the team were winning 2 v 1 as Michael Ruth picked up the ball at the edge of the box before beating three players and finishing very well with his left foot. It was soon three thanks to a header from Michael Ruth who then completed his Hat Trick with a free kick. In between times Andrew Duncan, running from midfield, scored with an excellent left footed strike into the top corner.

The entire squad had a massive impact on the game and the team spirit and footballing ability was a joy to watch.

Thank you to Mr Mark Gallagher, Mr Mark McKean and Mr Joe Harkins for taking the school team.

Thank you to all of the parents, family members and staff who attended the game and for the excellent hospitality from the Markey family before the game. Mr Ross Eaglesham has posted several outstanding pictures of the game on the school twitter account.

The boys deservedly won the most prestigious competition in school football and performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament. The Scottish Shield makes it a brilliant Treble for the team this season.

Before the game Sir Alex Ferguson told the boys “Not to enjoy the occasion, to win the occasion” – it’s fair to say that the boys did both!
