Caritas Awards 2016

2016 Caritas story @ St Luke’s High

Another busy year with forty successful candidates engaged in a range of activities including:

  • supporting the work of the Chaplaincy team including liturgical planning for our patronal mass with Bishop Keenan and our annual Advent Service
  • producing calendars for school charities and parish
  • children’ liturgy
  • working in local Foodbanks
  • soup kitchens
  • nursing homes, and
  • supporting the work of the Cardinal Wining Pro-Life initiative.

The Caritas students hosted Bishop John Keenan for our cluster-wide consultation event in anticipation of the diocesan synod. We led groups of primary and secondary school pupils to explore important questions relating to young people and their experience of the Church.

We’ve been busy caring for the fabric of the parish from church cleaning to mending and painting parish fences. We’ve helped raise funds for SCIAF with our annual Act Fast event as well as undertake related activities such as ‘Rich man, poor man’ meals, ‘sponge-the-teacher’ lunchtime events and shoe-box appeals. We had great fun raising money for charities when we produced our own version of “Do they know its Christmas time?” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3dlRLadkOk) 13,544 views!

After-school events have included raising the profile of charities and organisations at evening events such as parents’ evenings. We’ve met with leading Catholic figures in Scotland including Anton Colella and Alistair Dutton, learning from their stories of faith and witness.

Caritas continues to enrich our school life and provide a forum for exploring our faith in a context of service-based activity, learning and reflection.
