Community Voting Event

We recently applied for a Community Project Fund to restore and rejuvenate our school allotment area. We’re really excited to let you know we’ve made it through to the next round and have been selected to showcase our project on the 17th March at the Barrhead Foundry.

To secure funding we need as many votes as possible, so please, save the date, spread the word, we need your votes on the day. Please note, voting is open to adults only.

Here’s a sneak peek at our big idea!

We’ve been working alongside Young Enterprise Scotland to develop our big idea and create our proposal.

Our Idea, to breathe new life into the school allotment and develop  the space to create an outdoor, creative learning space. Our proposal includes the removal of the polytunnel and in its place,  a gathering/story area, craft area, mud kitchen, living wall and paths to improve access to the allotment and orchard. We want to make the area a more open creative place to learn, not only for our own pupils, but our families and small community groups. The allotment will be developed to include school plots sitting alongside community plots.

As in previous years, Primary 7 will be running the SCIAF fundraising during Lent.

Within the next few days, families will be issued with a SCIAF Wee Box and St John’s SCIAF Event Calendar.

Primary 7 will also visit each class and give a short presentation on Cambodia (SCIAF’s focus country for 2018) along with a reminder of the different activity dates throughout Lent.

Parent Network Scotland

We have a wonderful opportunity to offer you! One of our parents, Annmarie Strain works for Parent Network Scotland. She runs relaxed, informal parent/carer groups allowing people to come together to share experiences and support each other.

Annmarie is setting up a group at St John’s and is offering a taster session on the 11th October in the gingerbread room, 1:30pm-3pm. You can pop along on the day for some sandwiches, tea/coffee and meet Annmarie. She’ll also be able to tell you a little bit more about the group she will be setting up.

If you plan on coming along to Annmarie’s taster session you can email her directly or let the office know you plan on attending.

More info on Parent Network Scotland can be found on their website.
