Learning Lodge

The former playbarn has now been fully converted into two, self contained classsroom units for P7A and P7C. Since we have lost this additional resource for PE we are now making use of the gyms in Isabel Mair school and the Baptist church as well as our own school facilities. I am very pleased with the new classrooms and parents of pupils housed in these will be able to see them at our curriculum evening for primaries 2-7 on 23rd September and on Parents’ Nights in November.

Dressing for Excellence

It is wonderful to see so many smart pupils in shirts, ties and blazers. Thank you for your support in encouraging your child to wear school uniform. P4 to P7 should be wearing black school shoes, white shirt, school tie, grey skirt/trousers and grey/white socks. P1-3 may wear a red polo shirt and grey sweatshirt. The PE kit for the whole school is a red polo shirt, black shorts and black gym shoes. All children should wear a blazer. Sweat shirts, polo shirts, ties and blazer badges can be purchased from the school office. Jackets can be ordered next month and we will send an order form home soon. Please put your child’s name on all items of clothing so these can easily be retunrned if lost.

Uniform prices are as follows:

Polo Shirts £8

Lightweight Rain Jacket £10

Car Parking

Those of you who are new to the school may not be aware of our ongoing parking problems. Please park only in the designated spaces on the roads up to and down from the school and ensure that you familiarise yourself with the parking restrictions in place. Please do not park in the disabled bays, on double yellow lines, in bus bays or the staff car parks. I would also ask you to avoid parking over driveways of houses around the school or on the grass verges. We have already received phone calls from local residents concerned about this. Your co-operation is much appreciated and will help us to be regarded as good neighbours.

Safety

We want all children to travel safely to and from school and in particular we promote healthy approaches including walking and cycling to school. When arriving at school children should enter the school playground through either the side gate on the hill or by the main path that leads to the main door. May I ask that all pupils and parents enter by these two access points and not through the staff car parks as there is often traffic and these areas must be approached with caution.

Healthy snacks and school meals

We would like to encourage as many pupils as possible to bring healthy snacks to school. We are a health promoting school and always try to encourage pupils to make healthy choices. The cost of a school meal is £1.95. Primaries 1-3 are entitled to a free meal. Please ensure your child has sufficient credit in the system to buy lunch and/or tuck. If your child has not yet been given a PIN please let us know.

To avoid queues at the start of the day please encourage your child to bring a filled water bottle to school. This can be re-filled throughout the day.

Informal Entry

We have an informal entry system which gives pupils the option of entering the building at 9.45am. All children should be in school by 8.55am ready to begin work at 9.00am sharp. The janitor provides an adult presence in the playground from the bus drop-off area from around 8.30am each day and a member of the senior management team supervises pupil entry from 8.45am.

Welcome back!

A warm welcome back to everyone. I hope you all had a lovely summer. A special welcome is extended to families who are new to the school. We have 125 new primary 1 children and 16 new pupils at various other stages. The roll now stands at 719. We also welcome several new members of staff.

Thank you!

A huge thanks to all our Parent Helpers who have given their time so generously throughout this year, assisting with various activities in the school and with educational excursions. Your support has been invaluable and many of these events could not have gone ahead without your help. Thanks too, to our Parent Council and Parent Staff Association who have once again excelled themselves. Their fundraising activities have contributed to school trips, resources and Sacramental gifts.
