Congratulations to Katie Rice (3a5) and Lee Connelly (3a7) who have both been selected to represent Scotland at football.  They are now following in a line of current and former St Ninian’s pupils to represent Scotland this season.   Liam Runciman (4a6) was part of the U16 squad who won the Sky Sports Victory Shield in the Autum of 2013 and former pupil Andrew Robertson was rewarded for a string of outstanding performances for Dundee United with caps for the U21 team.

Katie has been selected in the U15 Scottish School Girls squad.  Last year she was part of the U14 Scotland squad who won the prestigious Bob Docherty trophy.  Katie even scored the winning goal in a 3-1 victory versus England!

Lee has been selected in the Scottish U15 football team who are taking part in an international tournament in Turkey from 22 to 29 February. 

Both Lee and Katie proudly represent St Ninian’s as often as they can and have both won silverware with their respective school teams.

In S1 Lee won the League and St Mirren Cup double and the St Mirren Cup again when in S2.  Katie was part of the U14 7-a-side team who won the Scottish Cup in 2013. 

We wish both Katie and Lee every success.

Congratulations to Anna Merrick (1a5) who passed the ABRSM Piano Exam for Grade 2.

Well done to the Junior and Senior badminton teams who competed in the East Renfrewshire Secondary Quaich Badminton Tournament.

The junior team came fourth but put up a great fight, a big well done in particular goes to Miles who won all of his singles games!  Playing in the Junior Team were Shona McGibbon (1a1), Amy Harvey (1a8), Clare Harkins (1a4), Jenny Dougall (1a10), Ben Clarke (2a3), Michael O’Neill (2a5), Owen Murphy (2a10), and Miles Felletti-O’Donnell (3a4).

The senior team missed out on 2nd place by two points, however, they too put up a great fight with excellent performances from Luke, Leon and Jodie! The Senior Team was made up of Caroline Reilly (5a11), Jodie Gillan (5a7), Sophie Igoe (5a1), Marianne McPhee (5a8), Andrew McNee (6a8), Michael Walsh (6a8), Luke Fossett (6a4), Patrick O’Donnell (6a8) and Leon Masia (4a10).

Great effort by all involved!

Congratulations to Frankie O’Donnell (2a4) who passed his Grade 3 ABRSM classical singing exam with merit.  Grade 3 is difficult for someone of Frankie’s age so very well done!

Well done to all the pupils who took part in the St Ninian’s Ski and Snowboard Championships on Wednesday 11 December.

Special congratulations to the following pupils who earned a place on the podium.

The Ski Competition was won by Luke Halpin (2a5) in a time of 14.39s with Oran McCarley (4a7) in 2nd position with a time of 17.50s and Lexi McCarley (2a8) in third with a time of 17.53s.

In the Beginners Competition, which was made up of pupils who leaned at Bellahouston this year, Michael Collins (1a8) took 1st place with a time of 30.59s, Liam Rety (1a3) was in 2nd place and Cormac Smith (1a9) was 3rd.

The Snowboard Competition was won by Lewis Walker (2a9)  in a time of 23.17s.  Warren Grant (2a9) was 2nd and Scott Liddell (2a3) was 3rd.

Congratulations to Andrew Holmes (2a8) who has won the Film Club UK Review of the Week competition for his Dracula review:

“If it was written now, 1931’s “Dracula” remake would be one of the most intensely criticised movies ever, and I would rate it 2 stars but when I think about it, this movie was scary, was ahead of its time and did have a climatic, suspenseful ending. Nowadays, the effects are awful, there are too many close ups of Bela Lugosi, Van helsing’s Scottish? accent was awful and the movie looks so old the screen seems to creak. Strangely though, I feel an admiration towards the makers because they used what the best was at the time and even though today it sucks, then, it was great.”

Many congratulations to Kieran Lamb (5a8) who has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Hollywood to celebrate the release of Disney’s latest animated film ‘Frozen’.  Filmclub UK sent Kieran to the Disneytoon Studios in America to talk to the film’s director Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho on what it’s like making an animated film and what makes for a good Disney picture.

This tremendous opportunity arose simply by attending St Ninian’s Film Club on Wednesday’s after school.

Well done to Anna Gallagher (2a4) recently received a Certificate of Thanks signed by Mike Veal, Financial Trustee of ACROSS saying:-

This is to certify that Miss Anna Gallagher “has helped make the impossible possible for the sick and unable to travel to Lourdes on the Jumbulance by playing her violin at our ACROSS Charity Ball and raising the amazing sum of £140.05″

Well done to Clare Harkins (1a4) who took part in a gruelling boot camp in Queens Park to raise funds for Philippines appeal on December 1 2013.  She suffered very sore muscles afterwards but it was worth it!
