On Tuesday 4 February all pupils in S1 took part in the annual Skipathon. In teams, the pupils skipped continuously for 3 periods without stopping (2 hour and 30 minutes). Pupils were also challenged to raise sponsorship money for their efforts—the class raising the most money would win the opportunity to enjoy a trip to Blackpool at the end of the school year.

A whopping grand total of £3200 was raised with the winning class being 1a9 who raised a phenomenal £586.70.

The following pupils also raised a substantial amount of money on their own and will also have the opportunity to go to Blackpool: Holly Edgar (1a1), Jemma Ure (1a2), Daniel Kelly (1a2), Megan McLaughlin (1a4), Diane Summers (1a4), Alexandra O’Donnell (1a4), Sean Nolan (1a5), Cara Reid (1a5), Anne-Cecilia Stewart (1a5), Aiden Campbell (1a7), Skye Stander (1a7), Matthew Crilly (1a8), Roisin Crumlish (1a8), Harry MacConnell (1a8), Rachel Moffat (1a8), Christopher Noble (1a8), Robbie Ferguson (1a9), Zofia Koryga (1a9), Ellie MacLean (1a9), Nicole Thomason (1a9), Lauren Docherty (1a10), Sophie Docherty (1a10), Cara Parker (1a10) and Mariella Ventisei (1a10) Well done to all pupils who participated on the day and contributed to the event.

All monies raised will benefit all of the pupils through the purchase of new P.E and sports equipment. New spin bikes and rowing machines have already been purchased and are now ready for use in the fitness suite. Well done to all of the pupils who took part and thanks to all friends and families for sponsoring the pupils.

Former Pupil Selected for Full Scotland Team

Congratulations to former pupil and Dundee United defender Andrew Robertson whose astronomic rise to fame continued today after he was selected in Gordon Strachan’s full squad to face Poland in Warsaw on March 5 2014.  The highly rated defender has been an ever present in the Dundee United team this season and has won many plaudits and accolades like the Daily Record Player of the Month.  He was rewarded for his excellent form with two games in the Scotland U21 squad.   Andrew generously donated his strip (which he wore versus Georgia) to St Ninian’s which is now proudly displayed in the Forum. We hope that a Scotland cap will follow!

We wish Andrew all the very best of luck.

Squash Success

Congratulations to Patrick O’Sullivan (4a10) who won the U17 Scottish Squash Junior Open 2014.

Well done also to younger brother Daniel O’Sullivan (2a2) who was runner up in the U13 age group.

Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Championships

The following pupils all competed in the Scottish Indoor Athletics Championships on Thursday 6 February.  This was a great experience for all of the pupils, most of whom were competing against athletes up to three years older than them.

Amy Donaghy (3a6), Joseph Lowrie (2a4), Michael Lowrie (2a8), Tony Duggan (4a10) and Ciara Murphy (4a9).

Amy Donaghy recorded two fantastic personal best times; The first was 8.10s in the 60m which gave her overall 4th place.  In the 200m she went one better and won a bronze medal with a time of 26.36s.

St Ninian’s Pupils Selected for Scotland

Congratulations to Katie Rice (3a5) and Lee Connelly (3a7) who have both been selected to represent Scotland at football.  They are now following in a line of current and former St Ninian’s pupils to represent Scotland this season.   Liam Runciman (4a6) was part of the U16 squad who won the Sky Sports Victory Shield in the Autum of 2013 and former pupil Andrew Robertson was rewarded for a string of outstanding performances for Dundee United with caps for the U21 team.

Katie has been selected in the U15 Scottish School Girls squad.  Last year she was part of the U14 Scotland squad who won the prestigious Bob Docherty trophy.  Katie even scored the winning goal in a 3-1 victory versus England!

Lee has been selected in the Scottish U15 football team who are taking part in an international tournament in Turkey from 22 to 29 February.

Both Lee and Katie proudly represent St Ninian’s as often as they can and have both won silverware with their respective school teams.

In S1 Lee won the League and St Mirren Cup double and the St Mirren Cup again when in S2.  Katie was part of the U14 7-a-side team who won the Scottish Cup in 2013.

We wish both Katie and Lee every success.
