- Presentation of Geographical Data
Unit 2 Geographical Study (40% of grade – 80 marks)
25-page report/dissertation on an in-depth fieldwork/research study on a topic of your choice.
Unit 3 Geographical Issues (30% of grade – 60 marks)
12-page essay, critically analysing 3 viewpoints on a Geographical issue of your choice
Final exam (30% of grade – 60 marks)
There are three sections to the exam and you must answer a question from each section. The exam lasts 2½ hours
- Mapping (30 marks),
- Data analysis (20 marks)
- Fieldwork (10 marks)

Advanced Higher Geography
Advanced Higher Geography is a pupil-driven course that encourages you to apply your geographical knowledge and skills in a range of real-world contexts. A key strength of the course is the high level of choice it offers, allowing you to focus on the areas of Geography that interest you most, while developing independence and the ability to manage your own deadlines.
This qualification is an excellent stepping stone to university, as it helps you build essential academic skills that are valued across many subjects. Throughout the course, you will develop your ability to carry out research, reference sources correctly, think critically, and present well-structured reports and essays.
You will also gain practical experience in fieldwork, as well as skills in handling data, statistics, mapwork, and interpretation—preparing you for further study and beyond.
