As part of their Europe topic and with shrove Tuesday so close, P6a used their teamwork & measurement skills to follow a recipe to create French crepes or Scottish pancakes.
Naturally, they had to taste the final product for quality control reasons!
As part of their Victorian topic, P6a compared the diets of modern day Scots to that of the Victorian Scots.
They worked in groups to follow a traditional gruel recipe from a Victorian cookbook and a Scottish porridge recipe.
They then discussed the differences and similarities in appearance, smell, texture and taste.
Inspired by a Victorian cookbook and using ingredients that would have been available during the time period, P6a & P6b joined forces to bake a lovely apple cake.
We were lucky enough to be joined by some P1 helpers.
After all the preparation, the children learned the importance of tidying up and cleaning their equipment!
Finally, it was a chance to taste their creations. The resounding verdict was every group had correctly followed the recipe, weighed and measured their ingredients and baked a tasty cake!
