As we enter these new and unsettling times, children can be confused with the changes that are happening This may help parents/carers when explaining things:

Here is a list of activities that may help occupy your children in the coming weeks:

Home Learning activities will be assigned via Google Classroom. This will consist of maths & numeracy & Literacy daily.

HWB, RERC, Social studies, art, ICT, outdoor learning, science activities will also be assigned.

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy. Please check Google classroom, this blog and twitter regularly and I look forward to seeing you when school recommences.

Jennifer Williams

P6a joined with P6b to receive a fantastic talk from author Jennifer Williams.

She spoke about the themes of divorce, friendship, compromise and ADHD as this is the premise of her novel. There is a science theme in the novel and she demonstrated one of the experiments that her main characters participate in.

Science

P6a used their observational skills to check for any changes in their science experiment. They used the microscopes to observe a selection of cells to become familiar with the equipment and analysing slides before looking at the bacteria once it has bred.

They have some new hand washing posters with lyrics to their favourite songs to help them wash their hands for long enough.

Breeding Bacteria

Pupils have been learning about bacteria and germs and participated in an experiment to assess the effects of a variety of conditions on bacteria growth. Underpinning this experiment was the importance of washing your hands. They used bread as a visual stimulus for this experiment.

Children will monitor and record the difference in bacteria growth over the next two weeks.

STEM with P1

P6a share their knowledge and skills with P1 on Friday when they helped them design and create 3D shapes and structures from Kapla. They worked together to help the infants problem solve, create and adapt their designs. There was a fantastic sharing of mathematical and engineering language.

DEAR

Throughout the day whenever they heard a tambourine sound P6a would Drop Everything And Read a personal reading book for 10 minutes!

World Book Day activities

To celebrate WBD the children have competed in a treasure hunt to identify book characters and find a hidden character.

Mary from Barrhead Library visited the class, taught us about the library and  how to use he app. She played book related games and read them a poem by Ronald Dahl. They throughly enjoyed her visit.
