Pope Francis Faith Award Walk

Over the last few weeks Primary 7 have been planning and preparing a walk in which they discovered the history of Catholic Education around Barrhead. Building upon the BYOD policy pupils had the opportunities to use their own devices as well as the school resources to prepare for the walk.  They used the St. Luke’s app ‘Anniversary Urban Walk Barrhead’ which was created by the St Luke’s cluster committee and Miss Mckay.

Pupils organised the walk for the families of St. Mark’s and even wrote a letter which we emailed to the Bishop. While the Bishop contacted Miss Mckay to apologise that he would be unable to make it, he was impressed by the enthusiasm of our pupils to share the history.

Pupils then planned a walk considering the route, distance and time constraints.  On the day of the walk pupils enthusiastically talked about each location after ‘checking in’. They were a credit to the school.

Of course we finished our walk with a little hot chocolate to warm us up.

Thank you to all the parents and pupils who attended.

End of Year

20160624_124831

We have made it to the end of the year! Thank you to all the parents and carers who helped at events throughout the year including attending mass with us, coming to our Community Cafe and continually supporting us.

Well done to all the pupils in Primary 4 for their continued hard work and achievements.

Also thank you for your lovely gifts and cards. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and a rest before you return in August.

A very sincere thank you from Miss McCann, Mrs Robertson and myself.

MissMckay, over and out!

Our Community Café

Our café is mind-blowing and provides outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sunshine after school.  Our café vision is to run a Family Friendly, Fairtrade and offer a healthy option. Next week will be our last week of the café.

The café has so far sold Banana Bread, Scones, Banana Splits and Strawberries with Ice cream. All our treats are homemade – as far as possible-  and we have been developing our baking, measuring and timekeeping skills when preparing these treats.

Cafe Baking Scones

Each week we have had different roles at the café, which include handling money, completing orders, keeping the café clean and entertaining younger children in our Kid’s area.

The money raised has gone towards our Vikingar Trip and we are sure we will find an exciting way to spend any money left over.

Happy Customers

Please join us next Thursday 9th June 3pm -4pm for our final café!

Primary 4

Communion

On Saturday, Primary 4 celebrated their First Holy Communion surrounded by family and friends. It was a lovely occasion led by Father Paul.  The children arrived beautifully presented and excited to celebrate their special day. In the church the pupils took part in the Mass, listening attentively to the readings, Gospel and prayer and singing confidently. Some of the pupils older siblings confidently read their readings to a church- Well done to Alex, Jamie and Diana!  Our offertory was then brought to the Alter by Eve, Amy and Cara.

After the Mass, Primary 4 boys and girls went their separate ways to celebrate with their families.

On Thursday afternoon the children will celebrate their Sacrament together.

Thank you to all the parents and families who came to celebrate with us.

Communion

Communion

Tuesday 3rd May.

With just a few days to go until our First Holy Communion we were delighted to have the ladies involved in the Legion of Mary in for a visit. The ladies gave us all a communion gift each, a beautiful prayer book and a Miraculous Medal. They shared the story of the Miraculous Medal and how Mary had asked for it. They talked to us about our special day and prayed with us to Mary.  It was a lovely visit and the ladies were impressed with our beautiful singing.

Primary 4 will continue their busy week with a rehearsal on Wednesday with Father Paul(11-12.30), the Mass of Ascension on Thursday and French day on Friday. Plus as much hymn practise as we can squeeze in before their Communion on Saturday at 10am.

Primary 4B Puppet show

We made puppets with moving arms. We coloured them in and used straws and sticks to help us move the arms. We went into groups of 2 and 4 to plan our Viking scenes. Some groups did nature shows, some did dragon themed shows and some did battle scenes.  We showed our scenes to our class.

All our shows were super and a lovely end to our Viking Topic.

We are now looking forward to our holidays  before our final term in Primary 4.
