International Citizens

This term our topic has been International Citizens and we have been finding out about different countries and their cultures. We have been comparing the lives of the people from these countries with our own.

We have found out about the Australian and South American life.

We found out about

  1. School life
  2. Family life
  3. Traditional celebrations
  4. Hobbies and lifestyles

We used a Venn diagram to compare similarities and differences between countries.

Stirling Castle Trip

On Tuesday 5th May Primary 5 are going on their long awaited trip to Stirling Castle.  We are eager to go and looking forward to an exciting and informative day. We have our fingers crossed for a lovely sunny day, although pupils are reminded to bring suitable clothing for outdoor conditions.

Netball Tournament

On the 25th of February, Primary 5 walked to St Luke’s High School to take part in a fun-filled Netball Tournament organised by Active Schools Coordinators. Pupils arrived and were organised into teams with pupils from St John’s and St Thomas’s. Every team got to take part in different activities and play games against each other. Pupils practised goal shooting, throwing and catching skills. Then they worked as a team and developed communications skills and resilience.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

This term Primary 5 are completing a whole class novel study. We will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling in school and sometimes at home. We have already started reading it and are really enjoying finding out about Harry and his journey to Hogwarts. Grace said she finds Harry Potter’s story interesting. While Abi says reading Harry Potter is magical and Steven likes the amusing parts of the story.

We have been writing newspaper articles, letters to Harry Potter, predictions of what will happen next and have lots more exciting writing tasks to come. Throughout the term we will be developing our reading skills of prediction, summarising, clarifying unknown words and characterisation. The whole class will be developing presentation skills considering pace, gesture, fluency and expressions through preparing and preforming short drama pieces.
