End of Term 3

What an exciting term it has been for Primary 6b! We have planted pumpkins at the waterworks, which we will return to later in 2016 to dig up and cook! We visited the Foundry where we had a fantastic afternoon with all the gymnastic coaches from Flair. For most of the children this was their first opportunity to try the beams and bars. During health week we enjoyed specialist coaches teaching us about bowling, basketball and golf. We also had a fantastic and successful sports day, culminating in some not so healthy ice-cream!

We are rehearsing the school show with P7 and the drama group, and many of the children from P6 have speaking or solo singing parts. Everyone has put in a fantastic effort and we are looking forward to the live performances.

During this term we studied the Olympic games and learned a lot of historical facts. We created art based on movement and  the Olympics and used the theme to inspire us to write poetry, letters and fact sheets. We studied the culture of the host country Rio  and used ICT to research and create presentations for the class based upon Rio, the Olympics or an individual sport.  In maths we recorded decimal notions of time and created graphs and diagrams on Olympic facts and times.

Having worked hard on our reading and literacy skills this year, Primary 6 shared their knowledge and skills with Primary 4 and Primary 2 pupils during paired reading sessions.

It has been a very busy term and the children are ready for the summer break, after which they shall return as Primary 7 for their final year here at St. Marks.

It has been a pleasure to teach the year group for the last two years and I wish them luck and success in Primary 7.

S. Nelson.
