Primary 1class merger arrangements for Primary 2

As I made you aware at your child’s Induction Meeting last May, the five Primary 1 classes this year will be merged into four Primary 2 classes for next year.
The process of merging these classes will be done through Senior Management discussions with class teacher, ongoing teacher observations and assessments, gender ratio, whole year screening and friendship groupings.
I would appreciate it if you could complete the proforma below with the names of three children that you would like your child to be with in the same class next year. I will endeavour to ensure that your child is in class with two of these children.
All forms should be returned to school by Friday 27th March 2015.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Yours Sincerely,
Josephine McGrotty DHT

Girls—Navy sweatshirt/cardigan, blue shirt/polo shirt, navy skirt/pinafore
School tie, blazer/navy school fleece or dark jacket
Black shoes
P.E
At the beginning of P1 you will receive a memo with details of PE days.  For PE your child should have: dark shorts, t-shirt and soft shoes (these can be kept in a shoe bag).  Your child will also have one outdoor PE session and so for this they would require trainers, dark jogging trousers and a warm top.
Please ensure your child’s name is on EVERY piece of clothing, shoes, bag etc.

Lunches/Snacks
We advise that all P1 children should have a packed lunch for the first few weeks.  As a Health Promoting School, we encourage parents to provide a healthy lunch, including a drink.
When ordering a hot lunch, East Renfrewshire Council operate a cashless lunch system.  You will receive information regarding this on the pupils’ Induction Day in June.  Please go to www.eastrenfrewshire.gov/uk.schoolmeals for more information.
IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT PEANUTS ARE NOT
ALLOWED IN OUR SCHOOL AS WE HAVE CHILDREN WITH ALLERGIES.

When your child comes to school they will learn many new things.  It may help them to settle if they can do some of the following:-

How to help your child prepare for Primary 1

  • Go to the toilet alone
  • Change clothes for PE
  • Manage buttons, zips etc.
  • Share crayons, pencils etc.
  • Recognise their  name Listen to others
  •  Take turns in games
  •  Know days of the week, colours

Parental Concerns
From time to time you may have questions about some aspects of your child’s schooling.  If this is the case, simply phone the school and ask for an appointment either with the class teacher or with Mrs McGrotty DHT.
In addition there are 2 Parents’ Nights during the year as well as a ‘Meet the Teacher Day’ and a Curriculum Afternoon. You will be notified of the dates of these in due course.
If your child is absent, please  let us know by phoning the school as early as possible on the first day of absence.
On the first day of term you will be asked to confirm pick up arrangements for the end of day.
It is important that if there are any changes to pick up arrangements you inform the school as soon as possible.

Primary 1 Blending Information

Word Box Sheet
Please use these groups of words with your child each night to develop their skill of blending (sounding out).

For example:

sat
. . .

duck
. .   .

When a dot is placed under the letter your child should say that letter sound or joint sound (ai, ee, ie, ck, oa etc.), repeat the sounds slowly until they can successfully say the word.

Please note these words have not to be learned. The aim of these is to develop the skill of blending using the sounds they know, rather than developing visual memory.

Your child will receive a new word box sheet every 6 weeks.

Primary 1c

Primary 1c are using number fans to show the number before and after. They are so clever that they are now beginning to learn about odd and even numbers.

How clever are they?

They are learning to identify and write the number four.

Jolly Phonics is a programme that is used in Primary 1 to help the children learn their sounds. It is interactive and engaging. Today’s letter was the letter ‘n’

We welcomed  Snappy the Crococilde who told us all about the importance of brushing our teach.  We learned that we have to open our mouth wide and not eat too many sugary sweets. We also learned what direction to brush our teeth in.  Just ask us and we will show you!

The playground games are great and we were shown how to use the climbing wall safely and take turns on the train.

In the playground we are very responsible and are learning how to line up properly and care for each other.

  Oh what stars!
