We launched Languages Week Scotland at our whole school assembly on Wednesday, where lots of pupils and staff shared their multi-lingual talents with over fifteen different languages being spoken and shared! The children will also be learning about many different cultures and traditions as well as the many lifelong benefits that learning another language brings. There is great excitement too, as we will be building our own Chinese Dragon to celebrate Chinese New Year on the 1st February and can’t wait to see it dance its way around Netherlee! At assembly, we also thoroughly enjoyed 2 of our children telling us about their own family traditions during Chinese New Year and even showing everyone a Chinese lantern and the beautiful clothes they wear. We always look for opportunities to link the learning experiences in Netherlee to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and children’s rights and Languages Week will therefore focus on “…children have the right to an education, a right to speak their own language and the right to belong to a country…”. It’ll be an exciting week full of fun and engaging learning opportunities including songs, games, quizzes, research tasks and much more!
