As we get closer and closer to the very much needed holiday period, we have been busy making lots of safe but exciting plans for the next few weeks in school and nursery.
Another thank you to the PTA who, because of your generous donations to them, have offered to fund lots of crafts, snacks and activities for the children. We are delighted that the PTA are also funding a “virtual pantomime” (yes indeed- a virtual pantomime- the show will go on…who would believe it and how life has changed!). Our children from P1-7 will be able to enjoy a live pantomime streamed into their classrooms on either the 16th or 17th December and our nursery children will enjoy a pre-recorded pantomime that week too.
Look out for information on the Online Netherlee PTA Fair which will take place on the 5th and 6th December; Local Businesses will be selling via the PTA Facebook event, there will be a 100 square raffle and a special message from Santa on the 6th. PTA Fair
Attached to the email is also a poster for a ‘PTA Wear What you Want – Give What You Can!’ day arranged by them for the 11th December. If anyone has any large blue IKEA bags they can donate then please get in touch with the PTA by emailing email@example.com
Our Primary One and nursery classes will be taking part in the Netherlee Living Advent this year. The children are creating Christmas art work to display in school and nursery windows for the community to see from the 15th November. The children are very excited about this and are looking forward to sharing their work with you all- we hope this helps to spread some cheer. Please see the route and map.
Each stage of the school will also have a special festive day. Dates in December are listed below. Children can wear their own, non-uniform, clothes to school on this day if they would like to but please remember, the children will also be going outside at interval and lunchtime to play and we wouldn’t want anyone’s very special clothes to get damaged or too dirty.

A few parents have contacted us to ask if it is alright for their child to bring in Christmas cards for their friends and staff in school. This is absolutely fine if your child wants to do this. We would ask however, that cards are only brought in on a Friday and they will then be able to be given out safely from the following Monday each week. Thanks for your help with this.
Every year we are overwhelmed by the generosity extended to us by way of the giving of gifts from families to staff. Whilst everyone should of course continue to be free to make this decision as a family and we would never presume, nor wish to direct what anyone does in this regard, we are aware that this time of year can present many challenges, even more so in the current circumstances we all find ourselves in. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to reassure our families and suggest that maybe a kind word in a card or email would be so lovely to receive right now instead and would be just as valued and appreciated by us all, particularly at this time. We hope you don’t mind us mentioning this but just wanted to respectfully express our thoughts to you.
In school and nursery we very much celebrate the diverse Netherlee community and as such, we enjoy learning about the many faiths and cultures of our families. Therefore, as well as celebrating Christmas, we will also be celebrating through our stage assemblies, the festival of Hanukkah which will be celebrated by our Jewish families from 10th to 18th December this year. In addition to Hanukkah, we will also recognise several other multicultural festivals throughout the session too and we wondered if some of our wonderfully supportive Netherlee families could help us with this. If anyone would like to share some photos or maybe even a little video clip of some of your family traditions around Christmas, Hanukkah or any of the other festivals that are celebrated throughout the year do please get in touch with us via the email system. Myself or Mr Bryce would be happy to explain to you how to do this and what would be really helpful to us. I hope you agree that this would really bring learning to life in a real, captivating and very special way. Thank you for considering this and please do get in touch if you can help.
