IDL Crime Scene Investigation Event

S1 pupils had a fantastic time at the recent IDL Crime Scene Investigation Event.  They learned about forensic science through practical experience of carrying out tests and experiments.  They worked as a team and used their problem solving skills to determine the key suspect in a crime.

The finale of the event was putting the suspect on trial – pupils were excellent and very enthusiastic during this role play.  All the staff involved were very impressed with the skills and talents of our S1 Pupils.  Well done S1!

S4 IDL Headliner Event

S4 pupils performed fantastically during the IDL Headliner Event yesterday. The Challenge was to work in House teams to plan and promote a concert for a famous Headline Act. They utilised their team work, problem solving, communication, organisation, research and creativity skills to complete a number of activities in order to promote their concert. The activities included; creating an advert, making the food for the hospitality at the concert, learning essential first aid skills, training in event security and many much more.

S1 Rapid Response

Yesterday, our S1s became Rapid Response engineers for the day and completed a variety of tasks responding to a hurricane in Hondurus.  They had to work together in groups to build a shelter, transport emergency water, purify water, complete an orienteering task and make survival food.  This links to work they have been doing in classes across the curriculum such as learning Spanish in Modern Languages, learning about water purification in Science, measuring area in Maths and learning about the formation of hurricanes in Geography.

Headliner meets World Challenge!

One of the activity stations during the S3 Headliner event was to create merchandise for the artist or group each house had been given to promote. Working in Art and Design, pupils created individualised draw string bags for their act. This involved pupils using their creativity, team work and communication skills. Thanks to Miss Plazalska for overseeing this activity station and helping pupils create their products.

Over the course of the day more than 20 bags were produced. S3 pupils suggested it would be a nice idea to donate the bags to charity or a developing country. Using the school’s previous World Challenge links, Mr Walker contacted the school in Cambodia which S6 pupils visited in June 2015. They were delighted by the offer and look forward to receiving their bags in the near future.

S3 Depute Head, Mr Hale, added ‘I was very impressed by the quality of merchandise bags created by pupils during this activity station. They clearly displayed an excellent work ethic to get the products planned and made in only 30 minutes and meet the tight time deadline!  I am pleased we have established a link with Snoeung Community Centre in Battambang to send the bags where I am sure they will be put to good use.’
