Pupil Council Christmas Appeal

Dear Parents/Carer

Following on from the brilliant success of the Macmillan coffee morning, the Pupil Council would like to tell you about our next fundraising appeal. As Christmas approaches we are aware of people who are less fortunate than us.

We have contacted the homeless charity, Glasgow City Mission, to ask if we can donate items to be given as gifts. They are delighted by our request and have asked us to donate Christmas selection boxes, gift wrap and sellotape.

If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring them into school between Monday 21 November – Monday 12 December 2016. The Mission has launched its annual appeal to donate online to provide Christmas lunch for homeless people in Glasgow. If you wish you can do this at:

The Pupil Council would like to thank you for your continued support of our fundraising events.

Mearns Primary Pupil Council

Our Pupil Council is very well established, with representatives of each class meeting with a Class Teacher on a monthly basis. There are two Pupil Council Groups, one for Early/First Level and one for Second Level.  This forum offers pupils the chance to raise issues of concern and for the whole pupil population to have a voice in the running of the school.  The recently created Blog demonstrates the level of involvement and responsibility the pupils have in supporting the work of the school.

The Council has tackled issues such as school aims, school vision statement, national and local priorities, as well as playground games, charity work and are consulted about other issues as they arise. The minutes of meetings are discussed at Circle Time in each class, so ensuring that all are kept fully informed.  Representatives also share information at assembly.   Visitors are welcome to attend meetings.
