Mearns Primary Induction May 2015

Primary 1 Transition

Children who are starting school for the first time are normally enrolled or registered in January.  Advance notice of the actual dates will be placed in the local press and information will be available from Mearns Nursery and other local nurseries and playgroups.  Notice is also given through school newsletters and and on the Notice Board in the The Avenue Shopping Centre, Newton Mearns.

Parents who need a place for a child at any other time of the school year, should contact the Head Teacher to discuss availability and to make arrangements to visit the school. We would appreciate being informed in writing of any change of address or proposed move to another school.

Primary 7 – High School Transition

Pupils normally transfer between the ages of 11 1/2 and 12 1/2, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education.

Parents will be advised of the transfer arrangements in December of the pupil’s primary seven year.  A placing request form will be provided at this time.

A placing request will be needed in order to move pupils attending a denominational school to a non-denominational school.  A placing request will also be required for a pupil to move from a non-denominational school to denominational school.

Pupils living in the Mearns Primary catchment to the west of Ayr Road, will transfer to Eastwood High School.

Pupils living in the Mearns Primary catchment to the east of the Ayr Road and houses in the Mearns Primary catchment fronting onto Ayr Road, will transfer to Mearns Castle High School.

Pupils in Mearns Primary School are expected to take up their local catchment secondary school.  A placing request will be required to apply for a place in either Eastwood High School or Mearns Castle High School.

For more information about placing requests for East Renfrewshire Schools you should contact Ann Nairn on 0141 577 3287.
