Our Charters

Education Scotland highlights that the culture and ethos of a school should promote respect as well as healthy and productive attitudes towards learning, life and work.

With this in mind, the Health and Wellbeing Working Group has written a charter for the playground and lunch hall.  These charters hold the same set of values and principles as the School Vision which was sent home recently. The group has consulted with representatives of the school community, including dinner ladies, janitorial staff, pupils, parents and Pupil Support Assistants.

Mearns Primary School Vision

Playground Charter
As we are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we believe a key aspect of this is for the school community to be aware of the associated responsibilities that come with rights.

The purpose of the Playground Charter is to promote positive behaviour and provide a safe environment in which pupils can play.

Lunch Hall Charter

Volunteers from Primary 3 – Primary 7 assist members of the Eco Committee in minimising their food waste and encourage pupils not to drop litter in our lunch hall.  They, along with dinner ladies, janitors, members of the management team and cleaning staff, work in partnership to feed the many children in Mearns Primary over the lunch break, ensuring the street area is cleaned and ready for use in the afternoon.

The Playground and Lunch Hall Charters clearly outline pupil responsibilities.  We expect all members of our school community to follow the Playground and Lunch Hall Charters and would appreciate if you would discuss these at home.
