We will be celebrating World Book Day next week.
Lots of events planned including P1.4’s assembly on Monday morning and P4.13’s assembly on Wednesday morning.
In addition to this we will have Book Swap on the 6th whereby pupils can bring in an unwanted book (must be in good condition and age appropriate) and they will be given the opportunity to swap it for another book brought in by a peer. We will be doing this in stages and have a designated area in the corridor whereby pupils can browse and swap.
We will also be doing a ‘Drop everything and read’ session as well during the day whereby the class teacher will bring in one of their favourite books and will have a short period to read to their class.
In no more than 500 words make up a short story about ‘Special Powers’.
Entries will be judged and a prize given in three categories:
P1-3, P4-5, P6&P7
All entries to be put in competition box in Waterstones, Newton Mearns.
Entry fee: £1 donation to Cosgrove Care http://www.cosgrovecare.org.uk/
Please include your name, age, Primary class and school.
Closing date for entries in Thursday 13 March.
Prizegiving on Thursday 27 March.

Craig Birrell, Bookshop Manager at Waterstones, Newton Mearns
Jamie Rodney, pupil at Hutcheson’s Grammar School and winner of the Scottish Book Trust Young Writers Award

We will be participating in Sport Your Trainers 2014. Please wear your trainers to school on Monday 10 March.
‘Sport Your Trainers’ is the national campaign which asks people to wear their trainers as a symbolic gesture of support for Glasgow 2014. It’s taking place on Commonwealth Day, Monday 10 March 2014. It’s the perfect opportunity for schools and groups to get active and focus on sport. It also provides a platform for learning about the countries of the Commonwealth – their people, culture and history.
