The Support for Learning Department consists of a Principal Teacher, three full-time teachers, and eight Pupil Support Assistants. The Support for Learning teachers work as co-operative teachers across different departments in the school, differentiate coursework and assess and monitor pupil needs. PSAs are timetabled to support individual pupils, with more complex needs, in a range of subjects across the curriculum.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT NEEDS: A variety of approaches are used to support students with Additional Support Needs. This includes co-operative teaching, tutorial groups, use of ICT, liaison with other agencies and consultation with staff to determine the most effective approaches and materials to use with individual pupils. The progress of students with Additional Support Needs is monitored regularly, with review meetings being held with parents and external agencies, as appropriate. Support for Learning staff also ensure that all class teachers are fully aware of individual pupil needs and work with class teachers to use appropriate teaching strategies to support all pupils with ASN across the curriculum. Targets are set for a number of pupils in different year-groups using our staged intervention process (stint).
EXTERNAL AGENCIES: The Support for Learning Department works closely with external agencies including Psychological Services, Sensory Support, Health Professionals, Social Work and Careers Scotland, to ensure that individual pupil needs are addressed across the curriculum. We also work very closely with Pupil Support (Pastoral) and Pupil Support (Behaviour) to ensure that all pupil needs monitored across the curriculum.
PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS: The SfL Department very much believes in the importance of having a positive partnership with parents. Further information for parents can be found at the following websites:
