Campus Police Officer

You may be aware that as part of its commitment to multi-agency partnership working East Renfrewshire Council Education Department has recruited Campus Police Officers to work with its schools.

In August 2013 PC David Cunningham took up his role as Mearns Castle High School campus officer. He joined the Police in 1994 and for the last 9 years has worked in the East Renfrewshire area based at Giffnock police office where he was the community police officer for Busby, Clarkston and Eaglesham prior to a secondment to Barrhead High School as campus police officer. This secondment brought about an application to become the campus officer at Mearns Castle High.

Duties at school shall include patrolling the school campus, inputs to classes, attending meetings and dealing with traffic issues amongst many other requirements.

Some of the educational inputs already undertaken are as follows :

Bullying / Cyberbullying / Internet safety
Crime and punishment
Knife Crime
Hate Crime
Drugs awareness
Talks/presentations on cyberbullying / smoking / alcohol / stranger danger / to pupils at our cluster primaries

PC Cunningham looks forward to a unique role within Police Scotland where he hopes to engage in an early effective multi agency approach to ” keeping people safe“.
