MCHS Young Football Journalist of the Year 2014/15

Are you in S1, S2 or S3?

If yes, then a fantastic competition is going to be running between now and March 2015.

Do you enjoy watching football?

Do you enjoy report writing or creative writing?

Would you like the opportunity to become a journalist or TV presenter in the future?

If you answered yes to any of the above then……..

This is the competition for you!

The finalists from last year attended a live SPFL game. They watched the game in the directors box and the winners received gift vouchers to spend in Silverburn!

The sheets are being issued at assemblies for those interested. Speak with Mr Murphy (PE Dept) if you have any questions or would like a sheet to register for the competition.

S1/2 boys’ football trial

There will be a joint S1/2 boys’ football trial after school on Tuesday 26th August.

Pupils should complete the sign up forms which will be up in the PE corridor, on the school teams noticeboard. Pupils, in S2, who played in the school team last year should also sign up.

If you are unable to attend the trial but still wish to be considered, please speak to Mr Haffie as soon as possible.

The first meeting of this years’ Mearns Castle Eco-Committee will be on Monday 25th August in Science Lab A8 at 12:30.

If you would like to be considered for membership of the Eco Committee or would like to be part of the broader Eco Project group please attend.

We are looking for members from all year groups to be involved in a variety of projects over the course of the year and those who would like to be considered for a committee member role can also gain experience leading a variety of tasks.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in helping Mearns Castle continue to be eco-friendly and also a great way to meet with pupils from other year groups.

Chess Club

The school chess club will meet today in Room F14 at lunchtime.

New S1 pupils are especially welcome to join.

The club meets every Thursday and it is for all ages (S1 to S6) and levels of ability.

There will be in-school and interschool competitions throughout the school year.

Feel free to bring your lunch with you, or just drop in anytime during lunchtime.

Author Visit

The author, rapper and spoken word artist, Steven Camden (AKA Polarbear) will be visiting the school on Friday 22nd August.

All pupils who have put their name down to attend this event should come to the theatre at 12.40pm on Friday 22nd August.

A list of all the pupils who are attending has been posted on the noticeboard outside the library.  Steven Camden’s novel “Tape” is now available to buy in the library for £6.50.

You are very welcome to buy a copy and get it signed at the event.  See Miss McEachern for all details and to buy a book
