We have been having great fun exploring ice in nursery.
Currently in nursery we are :
Check the blog at the end of the week for some photos of us exploring and investigating.
This term we have been having lots of fun outdoors, and we have been really lucky with the weather so far! The children have been exploring signs of autumn and caring for the wildlife at Forest Schools and were even lucky enough to see one of our feathered friends visit a bird home we had made! Outdoors, the children have been exploring autumn through transient art and have enjoyed engaging in some imaginative role play. Have a look at some the fun we have had below.
On Mondays children will choose a book of their choice to take home. It is hoped that you as a parent will take the time to read this with your child. The book should be returned the following Monday. Books returned after Monday will be changed the following week. There is also a comments sheet in the bag and it would be great if you could let us know what you thought of the book or your child’s thoughts on the book. Thank you
We would like to invite any parents/carers who would like to come and support our children with their library time in the morning or afternoon sessions on a Monday. This would involve supporting the children in selecting their new library book, encouraging them to share their ideas and thoughts on their books and perhaps reading a story or two! Please speak to your child’s key person if interested.
The last few weeks at nursery we have been enjoying developing our writing skills in lots of different ways .
Beep Beep Day 2016
This term the children in Calderwood Lodge Nursery Class are learning about road safety. To support the work of the road safety charity Brake we will be hosting a fundraising Beep Beep Day 2016 event.
On Thursday the 24th of November 2016 children are invited to donate £1 to wear their brightest clothes to nursery. This will help raise funds for the charity whilst also educating our children on the importance of bright clothing for road safety in darker months.
There will be a range of exciting learning experiences on offer for your child on this day in addition to wearing bright clothing. We look forwards to celebrating Beep Beep Day 2016 with you and your child.
As part of our Caring for the Environment topic the children had the opportunity to build a home for their chosen animal out of wood. Before beginning their building task, the children discussed possible design criteria with Karen and were encouraged to draw out a plan of their animal home. Thank you to Aviyah’s Mum Lilach for coming in to help us build.
The children enjoyed using a variety of tools and were thinking creatively and independently while carrying out tasks. They were able to assess risks in using the tools and carry out hammering and sawing tasks safely with support from an adult. When facing new challenges or problems during their building tasks they were able to suggest possible solutions.
We were very proud of the results!
