Children&#8217;s rights are embedded in our everyday practice and are at the heart of everything that we do.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We empower all of our children to learn about their rights,\u00a0 to\u00a0 enable them to become responsible citizens, effective contributors, successful learners and confident individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Rights Respecting Schools Award is based around the principles of <b>equality,\u00a0 r<\/b><b>espect,\u00a0 d<\/b><b>ignity,\u00a0 n<\/b><b>on-discrimination and p<\/b><b>articipation.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We are extremely \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Children&#8217;s rights are explained in the 54 articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. You can read about them here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/public\/Glenwood\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2023\/06\/19102014\/UN-Convention-for-the-Rights-of-the-Child.pdf\">UN Convention for the Rights of the Child<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All children have rights. They are known a<strong>s Rights Holders.\u00a0 <\/strong>Adults such as parents, teachers and local government are\u00a0<strong>Duty Bearers<\/strong> who support children and young people to enjoy their rights. Rights should be upheld by <b>Duty Bearers<\/b>\u00a0and accessible for all <b>Rights Holders<\/b> everywhere, all of the time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Within our centre, we have increased our awareness of children\u2019s rights through sharing stories, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">various activities and discussions. We often share the book &#8216;Let&#8217;s Explore Our Rights&#8217; with the children:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=npeiI3I1yNk\">Let&#8217;s Explore Our Rights<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have also composed two Glenwood songs all about our rights that we enjoy singing:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/public\/Glenwood\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2023\/06\/19112526\/Rights-Respecting-Songs.pdf\">Rights Respecting Songs<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Children are invited to become Rights Ambassadors where they share their ideas and promote change, as part of our Rights Respecting Committee.\u00a0 We have created lots of displays throughout our centre to promote children&#8217;s rights . <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">enjoyed taking part in special events like Fairtrade Fortnight, Downs Syndrome Awareness Day and Children in Need,\u00a0 as well as a range of religious celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staff involvement has been led by our Rights Respecting Working Party, as we have gathered resources, provided staff training and ensured children&#8217;s rights are consistently respected and promoted. We have also undertaken staff training provided by external agencies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every three weeks, we focus on a new article within our intentional planning which we introduce to the children through stories, songs and videos.\u00a0 Here you can see some of the different rights we have been focusing on and the different ways in which the children have been invited to learn about their rights:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Article 2 : All children have rights.<\/p>\n<p>Article 31: You have the right to relax and play.<\/p>\n<p>Article 24: You have the right to healthy food and clean water.<\/p>\n<p>Article 16: You have the right to privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Article 19: You have the right to be looked after and kept safe.<\/p>\n<p>Article 29: You have the right to be the best you can be.<\/p>\n<p>Article 12: You have the right to say what you think should happen and be listened to.<\/p>\n<p>Article 7: You\u00a0 have the right to a name and nationality.<\/p>\n<p>Article 13: You have the right to express yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Article 27: You have the right to a good standard of living.<\/p>\n<p>Article 14: You have the right to follow your own religion.<\/p>\n<p>Article 30: You have the right to speak your own language and celebrate your culture.<\/p>\n<p>Article 28: You have the right to learn and go to school.<\/p>\n<p>Article 15: You
