You can also catch up on Facebook –  Malawi Leaders of Learning and on Twitter – @MalawiLOL

I have promised the children I will bring back lots of photographs to show them and some souvenirs – perhaps even a Malawian plastic bag football!

Thank you again for all your support and best wishes,

Jane Husbands

Malawi Mayhem

Thank you to those who were able to come along and join us for our day of Malawi Mayhem on Friday. Thank you also for your donations which will help me on the way to raising my £3000 target for my trip in September.

For those who were not able to make it, the display boards are in the cloakroom to tell you a bit more about my upcoming adventure – along with the collection box!

Here are a few photographs to show what we got up to…

We are not sure that we would like “phala” for lunch every day!

Malawi Mayhem

We are learning this week about life in Malawi. Some of the things we have done so far are:

  • tasting exotic fruit to find out which is our favourite
  • making our own footballs from plastic bags
  • playing the board game bawo
  • printing colourful patterns on to fabric

Christmas Giving Tree

pc151367 pc151366Thank you to all our families who have already donated a gift through our Giving Tree. This year we are once again supporting the local charity Govan Starter Packs . If you wish to take part, you and your child can select a gift tag from the giving tree (in the cloakroom) and buy the gift suggested. The tags will indicate who you are buying the present for. We hope that by involving the children in the buying the gift, the children will experience the fun of giving to others.

Please help your child secure the tag onto the unwrapped gift and return to the nursery by Friday 16th December.

Den Day

We raised £61.37 for Save the Children when we took part in Den day. Parents joined us and we built dens, created models of shelters, designed logos and cooked bread on an open fire, all to raise awareness of the plight of many children living without the right to shelter.

Some feedback from parents.

“Den building day was a fantastic opportunity for parental involvement. It was very well organised and it was lovely to see the children enjoying the outdoors and actively participating.”

“A great afternoon spent outside with the children. I enjoyed spending time at the fire and helping to build dens.”

“Great opportunity to have parent participation. Good unstructured play where they really are getting an opportunity to use imagination and freedom of play.”

“Den day was a fantastic way to raise awareness of a very worthy charity and teach the children important skills in a fun way. So pleased to have been able to join in. Very well organised.”

Den Day

We have been learning about children’s rights to shelter and we have been creating dens. We are taking part in Save the Children’s Den Day on Friday 17th June. Parents are invited to join us to help create dens. Parents should come along between 9.30-10.30am and 1.30- 2.30pm. There will be collection tins if you wish to make a donation to Save the Children.

Children in Need

The children of Glenwood worked hard to raise funds for Children in Need. They made spotty Pudsey bandages for teddies and sold these for a donation. A lot of money was collected and the children had to sort all the notes and coins and count the money.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this worthwhile charity. Glenwood Family Centre raised £243.11. Well done!

Making Bandages for Pudsey

The boys and girls have been busy making bandages to sell for Children in Need.
