{"id":391,"date":"2012-03-14T15:06:21","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T14:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/Giffnock\/?page_id=391"},"modified":"2020-03-27T15:43:23","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T14:43:23","slug":"religious-moral-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/Giffnock\/curriculum\/religious-moral-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious and Moral Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giffnock\u00a0Primary School is very much a multi-denominational school where all religious beliefs are respected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/religious-and-moral-education\/\">https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/religious-and-moral-education\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Religious and moral education helps children to explore the world\u2019s major religions and views which are independent of religious belief, and to be challenged by these different beliefs and values.\u00a0 Religious and Moral Education is taught in Giffnock with these broad aims in mind and reflects council and national policies.<\/p>\n<p>We have a structured programme, which is taught by class teachers and invited guests.\u00a0 Included in our R.E. programme is the study of Christianity and other world religions.\u00a0 This encourages harmony, appreciation and consideration for the beliefs of others.\u00a0 While studying R.E., classes may make visits to local churches and other sacred buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Whole school assemblies take place on a weekly basis.\u00a0 Each class has an opportunity to lead the assembly.\u00a0 Themes of the celebration reflect the diverse community of Giffnock and parents are invited to come along and take part.\u00a0 End of term services are held in the local Church (Orchardhill) and are well attended by parents.<\/p>\n<p>It is recognised that the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 allows parents to withdraw their children from\u00a0certain religious instruction and observance, and parents wishing to do so should contact the Head Teacher to allow any arrangements to be made.
