Wear Red Day

We have just received information about this year’s Show Racism the Red Card’s ‘Wear Red Day’ which takes place on Friday 6th October. This is a great chance for young people to get involved in anti-racism education, simply by wearing red!  As a Rights Respecting School, we are very happy to have the opportunity to become involved in initiatives which promote equality and diversity therefore we would like to take part in Wear Red Day 2017.

We would like all our pupils and staff to wear any red item of clothing on Friday the 6th of October. This could range from a red t-shirt to red socks or any other red accessory.

Our participation in this event is to promote the anti-racism message therefore pupils are not required to bring a donation on this occasion.

Tesco – Groundwork Funding

Tesco teamed up with Greenspace Scotland and Groundworks to launch its Bags of Help initiative. The scheme sees three community groups and projects in each of around 200 Tesco regions awarded grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. Eaglesham Primary School has been selected with their bid to build a plastic bottle greenhouse. The public will now vote in store from 1 to 31 December on who should receive the £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 awards. Please vote for us!

The photographers will take photos of siblings, together with the individual photos – photos are for pupils attending the school or nursery only (no under 3s this year!).  There will also be a class photo taken for P1 and P7 pupils.

Pupils should wear their school uniform – white shirt, tie and grey trousers/skirt for school photographs. P1 and P7 will have a class photo taken – for class photos, girls are requested to wear knee high grey socks – hairbands, etc should be simple and in school colours or black.

 Adverse Weather

As the weather grows colder, wetter and windier we should like to remind you of procedures to follow in case of an extreme emergency.  All efforts will be made to keep the school open however there may be cases of severe weather when it might become necessary to close the school. If the weather should deteriorate during the night then the decision to close may be taken before school starts. This should happen between 7:00am and 9:00am.

Parents should listen to local radio e.g.  Radio Clyde for announcements and log on to:

Just a reminder that the flu immunisations for the whole school will take place on 19th November.  The immunisation will be in the form of a nasal spray, unless you have requested otherwise for your child.

School Improvements

We are delighted to let you know that the local authority will be replacing the windows in Eaglesham Primary School over the next 2 years. The first phase of this will begin in February. This will involve some re-organization on the school’s part as we will have to vacate a room at a time to allow the workmen access. Although this will be an inconvenience, it will be worth it to be rid of the old draughty metal windows.

We have also managed to secure funds to install fencing across the pitch to separate it from the car park and also new fencing at the infant playground. This should enhance the safety of our pupils. Parents will still be able to meet P1 and 2 at the end of the day. The community will still be able to access the MUGA. The document below shows the plan of the development

No Parking Zones

NO PARKING ZONES

Please note that cars should not stop in the “bus stop” zone or the “no parking” zone when dropping pupils at school. The car park is for drop off only – cars should not be left unattended. If cars are stopped/parked on the restricted areas in the car park , their number plate will be noted and reported to the Mearns Castle campus police officer. We would be also be grateful if parents could note that parking spaces in the staff car park are only for staff and visitors to the school.
