Walk to School Week!

Walk to School Week – W/B 23rd October 2017

Dear Parents/Carer,

The Braveheart Walking Bus will be running every day during Walk to School Week! We hope that this will be another successful week of walking. Remember, even if you do not live in the village you can be dropped off at the Eaglesham shops at 8.30am in the morning. If you would like to volunteer to help with a Walking Bus during this week, please contact Mrs Johnston-Smith. A little help really does go a long way in supporting active and safe travel to school.

The Braveheart route is led by teachers who provide high visibility waistcoats for the children to wear ensuring a safe journey to school. The Walking Bus is a great way for children to exercise whilst socialising with their peers.  It encourages all to take an active approach in their own health and well-being.  Please note that the bus will wait at each stop for a maximum of two minutes. It is parents’ responsibility to escort their children to the bus stops.  Please do not leave a child at a stop if the bus has not arrived.  As the bus is run and manned by Eaglesham volunteers, it is classed as ‘informal’.  This means that all children attending the bus remain the responsibility of their parents until they arrive in the school playground.

If your child would like to join a Walking Bus, simply turn up on the day at one of the stops that are detailed below. I look forward to seeing you there!

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Johnston-Smith

WEEE

Following on from last year’s successful ‘Towards a litter-free East Renfrewshire’ campaign, the Environmental Department is running a new initiative which raises awareness of the impact of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) on the environment and will also include an amnesty for small appliances that are broken or no longer in use, which will then be sent for recycling.

We are looking for any small WEEE that they may have lurking in drawers at home, such as old computer consoles, hair-dryers, Ipods, mobile phones and chargers etc.

Lighting up Malawi

The Light up Malawi project aims to raise awareness of and money for solar lights for Malawi. We wanted to celebrate this project by lighting up the stage during our Scots’ Verse evening. Well done to the Eco Committee and School Choir to ensuring this event was a success.

Giant Walking Bus 2014

Thanks to everyone for making Walk to School week such a success! It was fantastic to see so many children walking to school with their banners warning drivers to slow down and raising awareness for the charity ‘Brake’. Thanks to all the parent helpers that organise the walking buses. Eaglesham Primary School are very lucky to have two walking buses and we couldn’t do it without the help of Mrs Gordon, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Robinson and Mrs Hood.

Walk to School Week 20th-23rd May

We currently have two very successful Walking Buses.  Our Braveheart Bus runs every Friday along Gilmour Street, starting at the shops and finishing in the school playground.  Our Bonny Orry route also runs every Friday and the route and times are detailed below.

The Walking Buses will be running EVERY day during Walk to school Week!  We hope to make this the most successful Walk to School Week ever by encouraging maximum participation through a Walking Bus competition! We will record the number of pupils from each class who join the Walking Buses and give prizes to the best classes at assembly on Friday.  Remember, if you do not live in the village you could be dropped off at one of the buses in the morning.

The two routes are led by parents who provide high visibility waistcoats for the children to wear ensuring a safe journey to school.  Members of staff will also be present during some of the walks to continue to build upon our successful Eco Friendly initiative!

The Walking Bus is a great way for children to exercise whilst socialising with their peers.  It encourages all to take an active approach in their own health and wellbeing.

If your child would like to join a Walking Bus, simply turn up on the day at one of the stops that are detailed below.  If you would like to volunteer to help with a Walking Bus please contact Miss Johnston at the school office or an adult member of the Walking Bus.  I look forward to seeing you there!
