Since the establishment of the Confucius Hub in East Renfrewshire, the primary focus has been to inspire pupils to learn Chinese Mandarin and culture. With St.Ninian’s High School as the Hub the development of the Chinese curriculum will build on these. Inspiring and engaging the interest of pupils from the upper primary schools, which serve as feeder schools in the area to every year group in secondary schools, will continue to be the underlying principle of the development of the Chinese curriculum in East Renfrewshire. There can be little doubt that China’s language, culture, geography, religions and growing global economic status is attracting ever increasing interest among people in Scotland and throughout the world. To this end, the development of the Chinese curriculum in our hub should reflect the wide range of interests people have in China in order to give pupils a more comprehensive understanding of the Chinese culture. Moreover, by working with partnerships already established, pupils will have the opportunity to develop their own understanding of Mandarin Chinese in the wider understanding of China itself.
