Educational Visits – Next Week

Primary 6 and the silver room will be visiting the Glasgow Science Centre next week as they are learning about rivers and taking part in a project to raise brown trout.  They will be learning to look after the fish and release them into a local river when they have grown enough.

Primary 4/5 will be visiting the Burrell Collection to find out more about life in medieval times as they are learning all about knights and castles.

Primary 4 learn about Ancient Egypt

Primary 4 visited the Glasgow Museum’s Resource centre in Nitshill yesterday.  They had a great time.  They took part in workshops that enabled them to dramatise an Ancient Egyptian ceremony and were able to see ancient artefacts such as beads that were 3000 years old.

The resource centre is so close to Barrhead and is open to the public – it really is worth a visit. Click here for more information.

Ardentinny 2012

Stuck in the mud!
Learning to steer the canoe

Primary 7 children have just returned from a visit to Ardentinny Outdoor Education Centre, near Dunoon.  The children had a fantastic time and their behaviour was excellent – a real credit to Carlibar.  They enjoyed a range of activities including canoeing, rock climbing, gorge walking, orienteering, hill walking, seashore trail and a night walk  in the woods behind the centre.  They also took part in team challenges which helped them to develop skills such as negotiation,  making decisions, taking risks and working co-operatively.

The weather was good for the week with the exception of it being week one of the midge season!!!  Plenty of midge repellant cream was required and the midge hoods were well used by everyone throughout the week.
