This year we are offering parents the opportunity to attend a 6 week parent workshop with a range of topics based on supporting your children with their learning and informing you of current school approaches to help nurture positive learning attitudes. The first workshop will begin on Thursday 17th January between 3.15pm – 4.15pm. Whilst you attend the workshop, one of your children who is in P4-7, can attend 3 weeks of art activities followed by 3 weeks of sports activities.
The Parent workshop topics are as follows:
|Home Routines (homework, reading, bed time routines etc)
Behaviour Management Strategies
|Supporting Your Child’s Literacy/Numeracy
|Building the Learning Power
|Lego© Based Therapy
The workshops will be relaxed and informal with time for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat with other parents. As we have limited places, if you would like to attend, please could you complete the permission slip on your child’s letter and return it to the school office by Friday 14th December to reserve your place
Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At Carlibar we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce and related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.
We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth. This program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need the practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss.
The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.
We will also be holding an information session on Monday 8th October from 11:00-12:00 to allow any parents and carers who want to find out more a chance to look at some of the resources which will be used and meet Mrs MacLean who will be running the weekly group for pupils.
Further information can be found at http://www.seasonsforgrowth.org.uk/
