Active Schools is a national initiative funded by sportscotland, with the aim of making more children, more active, more often. Within East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure, there are seven Active Schools Co-ordinators, each operating in a different cluster of schools.  My name is Chris Cox and I am the Active Schools Co-ordinator for the Williamwood cluster, which includes Busby Primary School.  The most important aspect of my job is to provide opportunities for children and young people to be physically active, both in school and within the local community.  This is achieved through extra-curricular activities, as well as regular competitions and festivals that promote the benefits of sport and exercise.  Our team also works closely with local sports clubs to develop pathways and encourage lifelong participation in sport.  Our programmes are delivered primarily by a network of volunteers including teachers, parents, students and senior pupils, and without this infrastructure many of our activities would not be sustainable.  We are always looking to hear from potential new parent volunteers, so if you have an interest in sport and can offer as little as 1 hour per week, please  don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing
