Zoo-ed Visit

Last Thursday we had a special visit from Fiona at Zoo-ed who came to tell us the story behind the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

2016 is the year of the Monkey but we were all born under the year of the Boar, apart from Zoha, who was born on the year of the Rat!

Fiona brought some very cute and some VERY interesting animals and reptiles along with her and of course we got to have a gentle hold too!

There was Henry and Rizzle the rats! Philip the guinea-pig and Boudicca-Rose the rabbit. Dexter the bearded dragon and Angus the corn snake.

Some of us were extremely brave! Take a closer look – especially the pictures of Angus…eek!

Chinese Tangrams

During Problem Solving this week we worked in pairs to solve tangram puzzles. Chinese tangrams have been used in China since ancient times.

They usually consist of 7 flat shapes called tans but our first challenge was to solve a 5-piece tangram. All tans have to be touching and they can’t overlap!

We had to create a candlestick, candle and a boat. Afterwards to challenge us even further we made Chinese inspired objects using a 7-piece tangram puzzle.

It was quite challenging but very fun!

Kung Hei Fat Choi!

To celebrate Chinese New Year and as part of our IDL topic on ‘China’, we have been creating and making decorations for the classroom.

Next week, after the holiday weekend we will be cooking some Chinese inspired dishes including stir-fry. We will update the blog with a post to show the fruits of our labour!

We guess the only question is: Would you like noodles or rice with that?

Staying Safe at School!

During HWB this term we will be identifying ways of avoiding incidents in school.

Miss Kimble took us on a tour of the school where we documented all the ways in which we are kept safe during the school day.

Welcome Back

P4B would like to wish you a happy and healthy 2016.

We are glad to be back at school after a well-earned rest and look forward to all the new things we will learn this term!

It’s a Party!

After lots of practise it was time to perform this year’s P1-4 Nativity: It’s a Party!

Thank you to all the family members who came to support us!

We designed the background images for our poem and special song: ‘In a Stable’.

We hope everyone has a lovely time over the festive period.

We were so excited again to be cooking this week!

We made some healthy pitta pizzas and they were sooooooo scrummy that we had to have a try before we went home!

A Special Treat

After all our efforts in helping to keep the school grounds clean and safe the Rights Respecting Group treated the whole school to a popcorn snack!

We decided to watch an episode of ‘Horrible Histories’ linked to our IDL ‘The Romans’. Thank you to Miss Paterson and the group!

Rights Respecting Challenge

Under Article 24 of The UNCRC we have the right to a clean and safe environment. The Rights Respecting Group set us a challenge to give the MUGA a bit of a tidy!

We collected fallen Autumn leaves and litter that had blown into the games area.

It was an exhausting but worthwhile job. We are going to get a reward for all our efforts too! More to follow…

Remember, Remember…

…the fifth of November!

We were inspired to make these fireworks pictures using a variety of art medium; including collage, chalk and pastels. It was a very messy job but we think they turned out spectacularly!
