We have really enjoyed learning about Ancient Egypt. We were set a challenge to design and build a Shaduf. A shaduf was used in Ancient Egyptian times to collect water. The water was taken from the River Nile and was used for a variety of purposes such as cooking, drinking and watering the crops. It was lovely to see all our different ideas and the recyclable materials that we used in our designs.
Shazil – I used tinfoil, thread, kebab sticks and the inside of a used toilet roll.
Alice – I used stones, plant pot, sticks, string, yoghurt pot and a bag of stones for the weight.
Isher – I used sticks, clay, string and a medicine cup for the bucket.
Aidan – I used a shoe box, some canes for the ground and tissue paper to represent the River Nile.
Umair – I used a blue carrier bag for the River Nile, the middle of a toilet roll for the bucket, stones to make a bridge and leaves for the grass.
Jack – I used lego and string to attach the balance.
Katherine – I used the bottom of a bottle, string, a pencil grip and some straws.
Luc – I used sticks, a leaf, plasticene, a spoon and a stone.
Kieran – I used sticks, blu tack, a box from Nana, gold tissue paper for the sand and the bottom of a washing up bottle for the bucket .
Saman – I used sticks, super glue, a old cardboard box, a little box and some tissue paper.
Laiba – I used sticks, an old plastic cup, a cereal box, blue and yellow paper.
Rory – I used lego to build my shaduf. I also built a pyramid and the sphinx.
Rayyan – I used sticks and stones from the garden and an empty yoghurt pot.
Uzair – I used chocolate box lid, some sticks, pieces of paper to make the trees and the lid from a spray can.
Yasmin – I used a cardboard box, modelling clay to make the land and River Nile. I tied sticks together, put a ball of clay on one end for the weight and at the other end I tied a yoghurt pot on to make the bucket.
Zoha – I used blu tack, a plastic cup, wood for the base, paint and thread to attach the cup.
Rydha – I used cardboard, blu tack, sticks to make the stand and made the bucket from paper.
