Zoolab Visit

Primary 3B had a wonderful learning experience today. We are not able to travel to the Amazon, so Mrs McNaught arranged for a little bit of the Rainforest to visit us in our class. We had a visit from ‘Zoolab’!!!  Rachel, the presenter, brought  some animals and insects which can be found in the different layers of the Rainforest. We had the opportunity to hold a snake, a rat called Ross, a cockroach, a millipede and a good look at a tarantula called Sophie (nobody wanted to hold her!!!)

Here are some of the facts we learned today.

Yasmin- The Howler Monkey likes to greet friends by throwing poo at them.  Lovely!!!

Rayyan – ” Cockroaches like to live in caves and eat bat poo.”

Katherine – ” Tarantulas are not any more deadly than a peanut.”

Alice – “The rat called Ross likes to crawl up your arm.”

Jack – ” Wherever bats go they just drop their poo.”

Rydha – ” When rats fall backwards they spin their tails to stop them hurting themselves.”

Zoha – ” I was so scared to hold the snake but then Rachel told me to hold it, because it wouldn’t hurt me. I liked it when George was curled on Rachel’s arm.”

Kieran – I liked it when George stuck out his tongue. His does this because he uses his tongue to smell.”

Aidan – “When Sam the snail touched my hand it felt slimy.”

Luc – “I learnt that snakes can curl round trees and come out at night to catch bats.  Some snakes squeeze their prey to death!’

Rory – ” I liked it when I got to hold Max the Millipede.  It felt very tickly.  They don’t have a million legs, they only have two hundred and fifty legs!!!

Isher – “I liked holding the snake.  It felt ticklish!”

Saman – “I liked when I touched the rat.  The fur felt really soft.”

Umair -“I liked holding the snail because it was smiling at me.  It has over 10,000 teeth on its tongue.”

Uzair – ” I liked holding the snake because it was very long.  It is cold blooded and it has very long lungs.”
