2G were today hard at work producing desert courses for our annual S2 Ready, Steady Cook competition. Mrs Crawford, along with the pupils from 2G, had the wonderful task of trying all the deserts. Special mention must be made of the lime cheesecake which was delicious – a big well done to all of 2G and Mrs Irvine their class teacher.
Today our Primary 7s from Auchenback, Carlibar, Cross Arthurlie and Springhill are having a Taster Day. This gives the pupils a ‘taste’ of Barrhead High School and this will be followed up by an Information Evening for Primary 7 parents on Monday 7 November plus 2 further taster days in June 2012.
Here is a class enjoying Maths along with many other subjects and we hope that this has been a fantastic day for everyone involved.

A team of S2 pupils went to St Luke’s High School last week to take part in the Faraday Engineering Challenge Day, competing against the other ERC secondary schools. The challenge for the pupils was to build a mechanical system which would be controlled electronically and was capable of moving a cup of water a distance of 20 cm. There was an emphasis on team work and how well they worked together. Our team consisted of Ross Nisbet (Team Leader), Christopher Patrick (Accountant), Kerry Gubbins and Fraser Lundie (Electrical Engineers) and Scott Maneely and Nicola Miller (Mechanical Engineers). They first had to create a design sheet then buy the necessary materials from a shop, managing their budget carefully. The equipment then had to be built and a video was created. They were interviewed about their work during the building process and then finally had to demonstrate their manufactured product to the other groups and the judges.
Wendy Rutherford (Black Swan) William McKay (Mad Scientist) and Rebecca Ziola (Sonic the Hedgehog) were all winners at our Senior Halloween Party on Thursday evening. 120 senior pupils wore fantastic costumes and the judges found it difficult to pick 3 winners. A big thank you to the S6 Fund Raising Team for organising their first event of the year.
S4/S5 and S6 Halloween Party is on Thursday 27 October from 7.30 pm until 10 pm in the Senior Cafeteria. Only pupils who have a ticket will be admitted. Cost of the tickets are £3.50 available from the S6 Fund Raising Committee (see Laura Neilson).
The S1 and S2 Halloween Party will be held on Tuesday 1 November from 7 pm until 9 pm and again tickets can be purchased from the S6 Fund Raising Committee (see Laura Neilson). No tickets will be sold at the door. Advance purchase is necessary. This party will also be held in the Senior Cafeteria.
