Barrhead Pupils are Looking Forward, Not Back!

Brooke 3S4 Barrhead High School pupil Brooke Robinson chatting with Paul Wheelhouse MSP, Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs.

Brooke is part of the ‘Looking Forward, Not Back’ project, which is a joint initiative between Barrhead High, St. Luke’s High and East Renfrewshire Council’s Young Persons Services department.

The pupils have been learning about the historical background to sectarianism and about how it has impacted on Scottish life.  Some of them attended a national conference in Stirling last Thursday as representatives of the group. They had to make a presentation about the work they have been doing over the last nine months and had the opportunity of meeting the minister.

Our pupils represented both themselves and the school very well and made a great impression.

Barrhead High pupil, Kirsty McGinley (S4) made the long journey north on Saturday to compete in the Scottish Schools Swimming Finals held in Aberdeen.

Kirsty finished in third place, earning herself a bronze medal in the 400m Individual Medley. She also made sixth place in the 200m Individual Medley.

Not wanting to rest on her laurels, Kirsty then headed on Sunday to North Ayrshire where she achieved a bronze in the 800m freestyle , a gold in the 200m breaststroke and a gold in the 200m backstroke.

Fantastic performances yet again – well done Kirsty – we are all really proud of you.
