Today our school were lucky enough to have a visit from Ross MacKenzie, the winner of the Blue Peter Best Story Award 2016, with his book The Nowhere Emporium, which Mrs McCulloch is reading to us in class at present. Ross told us about the exciting year has had since his last visit to our school. He has won many awards!
He also told us about his new book, Shadowsmith. He read two chapters to us. It sounds very scary and exciting!
Later, many of us got the chance to buy Shadowsmith, and Ross signed our copies personally! It was very exciting! We cannot wait to start reading it!
Hello there! Welcome to Primary 5’s blog! It is a new session and we have begun lots of new work. Look out for news about science, maths, story writing and much, much more!
Primary 4 visited Whitelee windfarm on the 18th May. We made a tour of the windfarm with a guide who told us lots of interesting facts about the windfarm and the animals that live there. He gave us a test at the end of it. we also carried out experiments to generate electricity from renewable energy. It was great fun and we learned a lot.
Skye choose to find out about Roman weapons. With a bit of help from her dad, she made this amazing replica shield and sword. Skye told the class about the significance of the colour and design of the shield – we were all very impressed!
Fuzzbuzz is good. Some of us use it to help with our reading. Book 3 is called the garden. The fuzzbuzzes live there. They say buzz buzz. The mattress in the garden is yellow and the fuzzbuzzes like to jump from the tree onto it. At the end of the story all of the apples fall from the tree on top of them. This good work was created by Matthew and Ryan
We used historical evidence to compare daily life in Ancient Rome with our daily lives. We discovered that some things are the same and some things are very different. We would be very surprised to find stuffed dormouse on the school lunch menu.
We wanted to describe an imaginary person. We had been focussing on character writing. We wanted to use lots of adjectives. We made a word bank of adjectives that would be useful to us. In grammar we had been working on conjunctions and we wanted to see if we could use these successfully in our writing. Our success criteria also included punctuation and making sure our writing made sense. We were really pleased with our results as most of us self assessed and realised the successful learning that had taken place.
We used our ICT skills to research our Social Studies topic and found out that the Romans decorated their villas with mosaics. These are a great source of Primary Evidence about the Roman way of life. We recreated them in our Art using coloured paper tiles. It took a lot of time and effort, but as you can see, it was worth it!
Primary 2 have been looking at Sukkot this term. They made a Sukka in the class and decorated it with paper chains and flowers. They put a roof on the Sukka and put twigs and flowers on it. Everyone enjoyed this topic and had fun writing stories and making the Sukka.
