Learning about frustration…and perseverance

This morning some of the children were using pipe cleaners to make letters and patterns . To make the letters the children had to concentrate to twist the pipe cleaners together which a couple found ‘frustrating’ because they had to try a few times but were able to make a shape by twisting before making patterns on the paper with their shapes and letters. Talking about this helped us in the story of ‘the drowsy dragon’ who became frustrated when he couldn’t sleep and the children were able to show and talk about how frustrated felt ‘a little bit angry’ and the different things that made them frustrated like their little sister who ‘knocks down the things I build’.
